Emerging violinist Christina Bouey has been hailed by the New York Times and a myriad of media for artistry that is described by Opera News as “exquisite, quivering beauty.” The winner of numerous prizes and competitions, she plays an 1820 Pressenda on generous loan from the Canada Council Instrument Bank.  Lauded for “the emotion of his playing and his impeccable control” by Audiophilia​, Acadian pianist Pierre-André Doucet was named to CBC Radio’s Top 30 under 30 in 2014. He has performed extensively in Canada, United States, and Europe.

La violoniste de la relève Christina Bouey a été saluée par le New York Times et une myriade de médias pour son talent, décrit par Opera News d’une “beauté raffinée, palpitante”. Lauréate de nombreux prix et concours, elle joue sur un Pressenda de 1820, généreusement prêté par la Banque d’instruments de musique du Conseil des arts du Canada. BIOGRAPHY

 

Pierre-André Doucet is touring in Prairie Debut's 2020-21 season

Recent performance highlights for Pierre-André Doucet include broadcasts on NPR and CBC Radio 2, concerts with the Rand Symphony Orchestra in South Africa, a recital with violinist Sheng-Ching Hsu at the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, and a Debut Atlantic tour with violinist Christina Bouey.

He was the winner of the Knigge Music Competition, and with soprano Alexandra Smither, won the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition. He also earned the Third Prize at the 2015 Women’s Musical Club of Toronto Career Development Award Competition. In addition, Mr. Doucet has been awarded top prizes for his performances of contemporary works, namely at the Prix d’Europe and the Ibiza International Piano Competition.

Mr. Doucet is also a prize-winning author, with his first collection of poetry and short stories, ​Sorta comme si on était déjà là, published in 2012. Last winter, Mr. Doucet was named visiting professor at l’Université de Montréal, where he also completed doctoral studies under the tutelage of Maneli Pirzadeh. Furthermore, he has benefited from masterclasses at the Franz-Schubert-Institut, the Gijón International Piano Festival, Songfest, the Music Academy of the West, and the Tanglewood Music Center. Since 2012, he has been Co-Artistic Director of Barachois Summer Music alongside pianist Julien LeBlanc.

Christina graduated from Manhattan School of Music in 2013 with a Professional Studies Certificate in Orchestral Performance, studying with Glenn Dicterow and Lisa Kim as a full scholarship student, and in 2012 with a Professional Studies Certificate, studying with Laurie Smukler. In 2011, she received a Master of Music, while studying with Nicholas Mann. Her Bachelor of Music (Magnum cum laude) is from The Boston Conservatory, where she was a full-scholarship student of Irina Muresanu. Christina is currently serving as concertmaster of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and is a member/founder of the Ulysses String Quartet.
